Community Involvement
Making a positive difference in the lives of our members and the Athens community is a core value of Ohio University Credit Union. We show our support by sponsoring local events, organizing our employees to volunteer their time, and raising money to benefit a variety of community based organizations. American Red Cross Blood Drive
Our May 26 Blood Drive was another success for the American Red Cross. We were able to meet our goal of 15 donors. Thanks to OUCU employees and members who took time out of their day to donate!
Shred Day & Canned Food Drive
Our second annual Shred Day turned out to be a huge success again this year. We collected over 200 canned food items to benefit the Athens County Food Pantry! We were also able to help our members shred and recycle over 9,800 pounds of paper -- that's almost 10 tons!

Bowl for Kids' Sake
The bowling event took place on March 13 at Rollerbowl, in Athens. OUCU employees formed 12 bowling teams and rased over $3,100 total through all of their fundraising efforts! A big "thank you" goes out to OUCU employees, members, and the Athens community who participated. All donations stay local to benefit area children. As a whole, the Bowl For Kids' Sake event was able to raise nearly $43,000!

Bowl for Kids' Sake Fundraising: OUCU Bake Sale
The credit union put on a Bake Sale selling various baked goods that were made and donated by employees. Tables were set up in the lobbies of each of our branches and the goodies went extremely fast! We were able to raise $571 towards our Bowl for Kids Sake fundraising! Thanks to everyone who stopped by and purchased any of the treats!
American Red Cross Blood Drive
Our first blood drive of the year was a huge success! We had 18 donors participate which helped us exceed our goal. A big thank you to all of our members and employees who took time out of their day to donate!
Bowl for Kids Sake Fundraising: Chinese Auction
For this event, each credit union department created a themed basket to donate to the auction. Individuals and local business also donated fun items to help make the event a success. Employees could purchase tickets to enter to win the various baskets and items.

With everyone's help and support, this even was able to raise $1080 dollars for Athens Big Brothers Big Sisters. This brings OUCU's current fundraising total to $1613!

Children Services Gift Giving
Eighteen names were taken off of the Athens County Children Services Christmas Tree at The Market on State. OUCU and employees donated money so that these 18 local children were sure to have Christmas gifts this holiday season!
Salvation Army Bell Ringing
On December 10, OUCU employees took turns filling shifts ringing bells to collect money for the Salvation Army. They were located at the Kroger on East State St. and were able to fill openings from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Bowl For Kids' Sake fundraising: Pancake Breakfast
To raise funds for Athens Big Brothers Big Sisters, OUCU staff could make a donation and receive a pancake and sausage breakfast before work. The credit union donated supplies for the breakfast and staff was able to raise $180 at this event. This brings the current Bowl For Kids' Sake total to $533!

OUCU Helps Fill care packages for Bobcats serving overseas
Throughout November members and employees dropped off care package donations in both OUCU branches. As part of the Copeland Cares campaign, these items will be put into care packages and shipped to Ohio University students, alumni, and staff who are serving in the military overseas. Items collected included board games, puzzles, toiletries, books and Nerf footballs.

Bowl For Kids' Sake fundraising: Soup-off
The Soup-Off had various departments at the credit union make a pot of soup or chili to share. For a donation, employees could sample the soups and vote for their favorites. This event raised $168, bringing our BFKS fundraising total to $353!
Member and employee donations make blood drive a huge success!
As part of the annual International Credit Union Week celebration, OUCU teamed up with American Red Cross to host a blood drive on October 22, 2010. Employees and members signed up to donate, providing the American Red Cross with 15 productive units--that's enough to save up to 45 lives!

Bowl For Kids' Sake fundraising: Wii bowling tournament
Employees paid to participate in a Wii bowling tournament during their lunch hours with the winners from each branch facing off in front of the entire staff at our monthly meeting. As a result, OUCU employees raised $185 for Athens Big Brothers Big Sisters annual Bowl for Kids' Sake event.

Local 4H member wins OUCU-ponsored "Best of Show" clothing award
The fourth-annual “Ohio University Credit Union Miriam McLaughlin Best of Show Clothing Award” was won by 4-H member (Sotelte Guild) Aleithia Robe during the 2010 Athens County Fair. Robe was given this year’s “Best of Show” award for her work on a custom-made suit of her own design.
